How do people in the 21st century connect with the deceased? This project juxtaposes historical versus contemporary visual media within self-portraits — which are an idealized version of self — in contrast to the impulsive, organic nature of today’s social media. The dichotomy of historical representation is reimagined through an amalgamation of Twilight with analyses of self-portraits in comparison to the connection forged with my deceased Aunt Gisele; through the lens of her still-active Facebook page.
